STUDENT CONDUCT

In addition to all Parkland policies and Voyager team policies, there are two basic rules that all students will follow in math class this year.

1.      Be Respectful

    1. Do not interrupt when Mr. Clee or another student is speaking.

    2. Respect others and their property.  Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

    3. Be in class on time.  Be ready to begin class as soon as you take your seat.

    4. Do not make a mess.  Leave the room in the condition you found it.

    5. Always treat others the way that you would like to be treated.

2.      Be Responsible

    1. Complete your homework assignments and study for tests.

    2. Bring pencil, calculator, textbook, notebook, and homework to class every day.

    3. Listen to instructions the first time they are given.

    4. Ask appropriate questions or ask for additional help when needed.

    5. Turn in all missed work when returning from an absence.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up any work that you missed. As per Parkland School District guidelines, you will have two days for every one day you are absent to make up missed assignments. You have one week to make up any missed tests or quizzes. Work not made up on time will receive a grade of zero. It is your responsibility to get all missed assignments from the class website.

CLASS MATERIALS

All students must have a notebook in which to take class notes and keep handouts. It is your responsibility to keep your notebook neat and organized. Notebooks may be checked and graded at any time during the rating period. A calculator would be helpful also, although you can borrow one of mine during class. If you are looking to buy a new one, any calculator with a fraction key will be fine. You will not need an expensive graphing calculator.

HOMEWORK POLICY

On most nights, you will have homework. However, you will often have class time in which to begin your assignment. Any time remaining at the end of class is to be spent doing math. Only after all math homework is completed may you do other work.

Homework will be randomly checked throughout each marking period. In addition, homework quizzes may also be given. Late work will not be accepted. Homework will always be reviewed in class, usually the day after it is assigned. This will allow you to correct any problems or work that you may have done incorrectly. If you have questions on your homework, please ask!

A homework assignment is not a test and will not be graded as one. I will not grade your homework on whether or not it is correct or incorrect. Often your homework will consist of material that is new to you – I expect you to make errors. No one is perfect. You will learn through your mistakes as long as you work to correct them.

I am looking for the following when grading your homework:

  1. Completeness: You must copy every problem IN PENCIL and attempt to complete it.

  2. Effort: Made-up answers are easy to spot and will receive no credit. Do your best and SHOW YOUR WORK!

  3. Evidence of correction: We will go over all problems in class. You must mark your own work and fix mistakes. I know that you will not have time to correct everything, but there should be evidence that you tried.

UNANNOUNCED QUIZZES

Relax. I need to know that you are learning the material that I am teaching. The unannounced quizzes will be very short – usually one question. On the quiz I will ask you to complete a problem or simply to copy something out of your notes. Keeping up with your homework assignments and taking good notes in class will result in excellent grades on the quizzes.

GRADING POLICY

Grades will be determined through a combination of tests, quizzes, and homework.

Tests - 100 pts each
Quizzes - 10 pts each
Homework - 10 pts each

Your letter grade will be calculated on strict percentages according to Parkland School District policy. It is advised that you keep track of your grades throughout the rating period.

LAVATORY POLICY

You may not go to the lavatory because you are bored. Restroom visits should occur only during times when I am not directly teaching. During these times, ask permission to go if you must. Permission will be granted unless it is abused (going every day, coordinated visits with friends, etc.)

CLASS WEBSITE

Your class website is www.mrclee.com. It is my hope that the site will serve as an invaluable resource for you in your study of math this year. From the site, you will be able to find class calendars, homework assignments due, unit schedules, printable worksheets and textbook pages, test study guides, class lesson notes, fully-worked homework solutions, test review games, and more. If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to check the website to discover missed assignments and download missed class notes.

CONCLUSION

I will always come to class prepared to teach. I expect that you will always come to class prepared to learn. My expectations and standards are high in order to give you the best math class possible. Work hard and have a great year!
