Mr. Clee's Math Classroom PolicyClick on a link to go directly to a policy section.
1. I listen to students who raise their hands. 3. I allow students to remain in my class as long as they do not cause a problem for anyone else. 4. I grade work that is submitted on time. 5. If you cause a problem, I will ask you to fix it. If you cannot or will not fix it, I will do something. What I do will depend on the situation but I will always try to be fair. If you feel that something is unfair, tell me privately and we will talk.
WHAT I EXPECT OF YOU 1. Follow instructions quickly. 2. Make smart choices.
Calculators are allowed on almost all tests and assignments. Having your own calculator would be helpful, although you can borrow one of mine during class. If you choose to borrow one from me, be sure to take the calculator number your were assigned. If you are looking to buy a new one, any calculator with a fraction key will be fine. You will not need an expensive graphing calculator.
Your class website is www.mrclee.com. It is my hope that the site will serve as an invaluable resource for you in your study of math this year. From the site, you will be able to find all class calendars, homework assignments due, unit schedules, printable worksheets and textbook assignments, test study guides, class lesson notes, fully-worked homework solutions, and test review games. When you are absent from class, visit the website and check the Class Calendar. There you will find what we learned in class and what assignment was given for homework. If you then visit the Study Center, you can download missed notes, worksheets, textbook pages, and homework solutions. I expect that you will do these things when you are absent. Don't expect me to track you down and remind you what you missed.
Grades will be determined through a combination of tests, quizzes, and homework.
Your letter grade will be calculated on strict percentages according to Parkland School District policy. It is advised that you keep track of your grades throughout the rating period.
It is a good idea to keep track of your grades and assignments often using Home Access. Checking your grades often will help prevent tests and assignments on days you missed class from becoming zeros. If my account of your grade differs from yours, see me right away. There should never be any surprises come report card time. Even if you do not have Internet access at home, you can still check Home Access during homeroom each day.
On most nights, you will have homework. However, you will often have class time in which to begin your assignment. Any time remaining at the end of class is to be spent doing math. Only after all math homework is completed may you do other work. Homework will be randomly checked throughout each marking period. In addition, homework quizzes may also be given. Homework will always be reviewed in class, usually the day after it is assigned. This will allow you to correct any problems or work that you may have done incorrectly. If you have questions on your homework, please ask! A homework assignment is not a test and will not be graded as one. I will not grade your homework on whether or not it is correct or incorrect. Often your homework will consist of material that is new to you – I expect you to make errors. No one is perfect. You will learn through your mistakes as long as you work to correct them. I am looking for the following when grading your homework:
Relax. I need to know that you are learning the material that I am teaching. The unannounced quizzes will be very short – usually one question. On the quiz I will ask you to complete a problem or simply to copy something out of your notes. Keeping up with your homework assignments and taking good notes in class will result in excellent grades on the quizzes.
Students, if you are having trouble in class, talk to me about it. You can see me in school or e-mail me at cleer@parklandsd.org. I will answer your questions as soon as I am able. Parents, you can also contact me by telephone at 610-351-5900, ext. 68231. I will always come to class prepared to teach. I expect that you will always come to class prepared to learn. My expectations and standards are high in order to give you the best math class possible. I expect yours to be the same. Work hard and have a great year! |
